The unique spectacle of glowing neon signs cascading over streets of Hong Kong was iconic and remarkable to many generations of locals and visitors of our city. Unfortunately, over the years as Hong Kong undergoes rapid urban transformation, this unique visual language of signs is fading.
The Hong Kong Neon Archive, created by Information Design Lab, is a visual archive that documents over 500 existed and existing neon signs in Hong Kong. We hope to provide researchers and interested parties from different sectors with these data to enhance our understanding towards Hong Kong’s illuminated streetscape and visual culture.
